True Christianity Part III
Beloved, Don’t allow the unscriptural behaviour of other people destroy your inner peace and joy, because that is the strength of your life. Our scriptural focus for today states – For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. {Col 1:4 NLT}
In this expression of thanksgiving for what God is doing in the lives of the Colossian brethren, he equally traces the stages of their spiritual experience/development in Christ. He emphasizes their growing faith in Christ Jesus and their love not just for themselves but for all the saints. There is no parent that notices stunted growth in the physical development of his/her child that will go on celebrating rather every parent celebrates at the speedy physical development of their children. In the same vein, those who have laboured over you in the gospel and Christ, wants to always hear and see your speedy spiritual development. No wonder the Bible advises us to continually desire the pure milk of the Word which will guarantee our speedy and steady spiritual growth.
It will be important to note that as you grow in faith, you should also grow in other spiritual virtues that complement your spiritual life here on earth. As the Colossian brethren grew in faith, they also grew in their love for the people of God. The genuine love of Christ that has been committed to the Church knows no denominational, cultural, tribal, or racial barriers. It is a love based on faith and given to the Church to give to the world.
True love is based on faith in Christ.
