The Effects of Compromise Part I
In whatever situation you find yourself, focus your faith on the unchangeable abilities of God, and never open the door of your heart to fear or doubt, then you’re on the path of victory. Our scriptural focus for today states – As a result, other Jewish Christians followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. {Gal 2:13 NLT}
The compromise of leaders has far reaching consequences on those that look up to them, and as such should be avoided. The compromise of Apostle Peter had a bad effect on other Jewish Christians and even Barnabas, a member of Apostle Paul’s team to the Gentiles. When Apostle Peter out of fear refused to stand up for the truth of the gospel and choose to alien himself with those that were crusading human religion, he never knew that his actions was going to mislead many of the people that held him in high esteem. Apostle Paul uses the word ‘Hypocrisy’ to describe the action of Apostle Peter.
Hypocrisy is the claim or pretense of holding beliefs, feelings, standards, qualities, opinions, virtues or motivations that one does not actually possess.
Apostle Peter’s salvation was not in anyway a product of circumcision, amazingly he aliens himself to what he never possessed in the bid to avoid being criticized and appear a good leader in the eyes of those who believed in the doctrine of circumcision as a condition for salvation.
The example of Apostle Peter is a great warning to Christian leaders. It portrays that the every unrighteous action of a Christian leader can have a damaging effect on those who look up to them. It will be important to note that we are all leaders at different levels, and our actions if hypocritical can spell doom for those at our level of leadership.
