The Blessing of Giving and Receiving Part 1

Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. {Phil 4:14  NLT}

True righteousness can be received by abandoning one’s own efforts and turning to Christ by faith, because it can only be a gift and will never be an achievement or reward for good works. Our scriptural focus for today states – Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty.

Even though Apostle Paul had learnt the secret of contentment and has come to the understanding that through Christ he can do all things, it was still necessary for the Philippian brethren to stand with him during his times of affliction. He appreciates the brethren for bearing the burden with him. Their support made it easier for him to go through that difficult situation. The relief they sent to him, did not only meet his needs, but it also sustained him by the certainty that he was not forgotten.

Standing with one another in times of difficult is the hallmark of our brotherhood in Christ. The current economic situation in the world today may not be very conducive, but as believers, Christ expects us to demonstrate our love for Him, by standing with our brethren.

Apostle Paul also teaches us the principle of Appreciation. It is important to state that when our fellow brethren do their part by assisting another child of God in his/her time of difficulty, it is important for the one who has received such acts of love to reciprocate by appreciating such efforts. The more we practice the principle of appreciation, the more Jesus opens the heart of the brethren to love more.
