Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. {Phil 2:12 NLT}
Admiration for a great person because of his/her accomplishments in life can greatly inspire someone to go for the best, but it takes more than just admiration to achieve great heights, you need divine power on the inside. Our scriptural focus for today states – Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. Following Gods instructions as contained in the scriptures is inevitable, if you as a believer desires to accomplish great heights for God as Christ did. Based on this Apostle Paul admonishes the Philippian christians, whom he has seen obeying Gods instructions through him when he was physically with them to see to it that they even obey more now that he is no longer with them.
As a believer, obeying Gods instructions only in the church, or in the presence of your spiritual leaders alone will only amount to eye-service and hypocrisy, such lifestyle will be a direct opposite of the life of Christ you’re to showcase to the world. Obedience to Gods instructions is required more when no spiritual leader or christian brother/sister is watching.
When obedience to Gods instructions is solely based on Deep Reverence and Fear to establish the supremacy of God in your life as a believer, then you’re actually working out your salvation. To work out your salvation, does not in anyway suggest that you should work for your own salvation, thereby introducing salvation based on human works No. Its only calling us as believers to showcase lifestyles that will be a true reflection of the work of salvation the Holy Spirit is doing inside us. The Christian life is a process of ‘ins and outs’, Gods responsibility is to work in you, and your own responsibility is to work out that which God is working inside you for the to both see and enjoy.
