For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her. {Eph 5:25 NLT}
The subject of submission between godly spouse isn’t a one sided practice, rather it is a requirement for both the husband and wife respectively. Our scriptural focus for today states – For husbands, this means love your wife, just as Christ loved the church. For husband’s, submission means to love your wife unconditionally, so God expects the husband to submit to his wife by the way and manner he demonstrates love to her. Therefore, the husband must see love as doing kind deeds, being affectionate, compassionate, caring and understanding even when she does not deserve or merit it. The love of the husband for his wife is compared to the love of Christ for the church, because that is the actual way he can maintain his headship position in the family. Loving your wife as a husband is not dependant on the degree of her submission to you, rather loving your wife is fulfilling the love Christ has already demonstrated to the church. The church was dirty, unconcerned about Christ, opposed Him and even persecuted Him, but He won her over by loving her, learning from Christ’s example, as a husband no matter how good or difficult your wife is, you can only lead and win her over by Loving her unconditionally.
