For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. {Eph 5:23 NLT}
Today, as we continue our study on the issue of submission as very vital principle for the success or failure of any home, we will be focusing on Headship. Our scriptural focus for today states – ‘For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church’. The comparison of the role of Christ as the head of the church, with that of the husband as the head of the wife, speaks volume of the privileges and responsibilities that this confers on the husband. The following are some Privileges of the role of the husband as the head of the wife;
1. Honour – As the head of the wife, she should do her very best to dignify him at home and outside the home.
2. Authority – He exercises divine authority on behalf of Christ in the life of his wife.
3. Leadership – He provides both physical and spiritual leadership in the life of his wife.
In enjoying the privileges his role as the head of his wife confers on him, the husband must do it with the fear of God, recognizing that these privileges and more are not rights that he earned out of hard work, rather he received them on behalf of Christ.
Headship over the wife is a great privilege.
