As we continue our study on sexual sins and its effects in a christian relationship, our focus today will be on Adultery. Biblically, adultery includes sexual relations or romantic relationships between a married man or woman with anyone other than their spouse. People think there should be an exception, if the couple is divorced, or when a married person keeps a romantic relationship without sex, etc. However, the Bible does not mention any exception, other than the death of any of the spouse. Please note the following
1. Extramarital affair causes great emotional pain to the other spouse
2. It destroys trust and intimacy
3. Sexual attraction clouds judgment and often leads to actual sexual relations, even when that was not the original intent.
4. It introduces sexually transmitted diseases into the marriage
5. It can lead to premature death.
It is also an established biblical fact that someone can commit adultery in his/her heart without physically having sexual relationship, and the man or woman in question may not even be aware that he/she has caused someone to be involved in adultery.
Consider this – “The laws of Moses said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say: Anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart. {Matt 5: 27 – 28 TLB}
Thus adultery from the Teachings of Jesus can be committed alone in one’s heart. Therefore, adultery is the breaking of the marriage covenant, and it can be brought about by many attitudes or actions, sexual or non-sexual.
Be faithful to the man or woman of your marriage covenant.
Have a Grace filled day.
