The controversy over tithing has been on for sometime now, I believe it’s been a learning and equally an unlearning process for many Believers. I believe the church should use this time to establish the truth about tithing.
I will wish to provide light on the subject of – Are there consequences for not paying tithe?
Over the year’s we have been taught that you’re under a curse if you don’t pay your tithe and some went to the extent of teaching that life will be tight and difficult for any Believer that does not pay tithe. So this has produced a religious mind set amongst Believers. People now pay their tithes just to avoid the curse of God.
These teachings are based on Mal 3:8-11, some even went on to teach that if you fail to pay your tithe for any month, you will need to pay it with a penalty. So my question – Is God is wicked?
The truth we all may find very difficult to accept is this – There is No consequences for not paying tithe and you don’t need to pay any penalty for any month you did not pay your tithe. Like I said, many will disagree with me on this and their disagreement is not from the Bible stand point but from what have been taught in the church for many years now, which is not a balanced interpretation of the scriptures.

Please carefully examine this scriptures, I believe the Holy Spirit will give you understanding:
Galatians 3:8-14 NLT
What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would declare the Gentiles to be righteous because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.” So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith. But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.” So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” This way of faith is very different from the way of law, which says, “It is through obeying the law that a person has life.” But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.
Colossians 2:13-14 AMP
And you who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful carnal nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our transgressions, Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.

The curses pronounced in Mal 3:8-11 is among the many curses pronounced by God under the law and as long as the old testament was the basis for humans to relate with God, these curses were in full operation.
But the coming of Christ into the human world ushered in the dispensation of Grace and Redemption through the Cross, which changed the operation of the law. That is why the scriptures declared – But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree. {Gal 3:13 NLT}
It is important we understand that Christ truly has rescued every believer from every curse or curses pronounced in the law which includes the curses pronounced in Mal 3:8-11 concerning tithing or in any other place in the old testament where curses were pronounced for non payment of tithe.

But when you truly examine what it cost God to rescue humanity from the curse of the law and usher in the dispensation of Grace and Redemption, then Nothing in this whole world is sufficient to give to God for sacrificing Christ.
Therefore bring you tithe to the church with the understanding that I am only privileged to support the project of God on the earth and this you should do with joy, gladness and a sense of fulfillment.
Henceforth, don’t allow anyone intimidate you that you are under a curse for not paying your tithe. I believe you know better now, so see bringing your tithe to church as one of the ways to demonstrate your love for God and His project on the earth.
