Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, born on January 7, 1945, in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Nigeria, is a distinguished Christian leader, evangelist, and preacher. Early Life and Conversion

At the tender age of 10, Uma Ukpai faced the profound loss of his father, a tragedy that posed significant challenges to his educational aspirations. Despite these hardships, he embraced Christianity in 1958, a decision that would shape his future endeavors. Reflecting on his early experiences, Ukpai remarked, “I know what it means to lose a father and be a father from that age… I have feelings for the poor.” 

Educational Pursuits

Rev Dr Uma Ukpai’s educational journey began at Uma Ukpai Memorial Primary School in Asaga and continued at Khana County Council School in Ogoni. He furthered his studies at All Saints Secondary School and Niger Delta Technical School, both in Aba. Demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning, he earned a Certificate in Electrical Engineering Practice, a Diploma in Journalism, and both Bachelor’s and Doctorate degrees in Divinity from institutions in the United Kingdom and the United States. 

Ministry and Evangelistic Work

In 1975, Ukpai founded the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), a non-denominational gospel ministry headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The association has been instrumental in organizing citywide crusades across Nigeria, notably the “Greater Lagos for Christ Crusade” in 1985, which played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN). Ukpai has held leadership positions within PFN, including National Vice President and National Chairman of the Think-Tank Committee. 

Humanitarian Initiatives

Beyond evangelism, Rev Dr Uma Ukpai has demonstrated a profound commitment to humanitarian efforts. He established the Uma Ukpai Eye Centre and the King of Kings Hospital in Abia State, providing essential medical services to communities in Abia, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States. Additionally, he founded the Uma Ukpai School of Theology and Biblical Studies in Uyo, the Uma Ukpai Polytechnic in Asaga, and the Uma Ukpai Scholarship Foundation, reflecting his dedication to education and community development. 

Personal Life

Rev Dr Uma Ukpai married Philomena Uma Ukpai in 1975, and together they have eight children and an adopted child. The couple has faced profound personal tragedies, including the loss of two children in a car accident on the same day. Despite these challenges, their faith and commitment to their ministry have remained steadfast.

That is because, the man Rev. Dr. Umah Ukpai, has been at the forefront of Christian revival crusades in Nigeria and around the globe. His ministry has brought countless testimonies, deliverances, transformation, healing, and salvation to people from different parts of the world.

Rev. Umar’s life is an epitome of focus and consistency. He was a crowd puller just like the leaders of the elite charismatic churches of today in Nigeria, but chose to remain within the bounds of his calling as an evangelist. Just like Caleb and Joshua were still doing exploits in their old age, the move God during the ministration of the man of God, Umah Ukpai, is still as potent as ever even as he just clocked 80 on January 7, 2025.
