At that time all mankind spoke a single language. 2 As the population grew and spread eastward, a plain was discovered in the land of Babylon and was soon thickly populated. 3-4 The people who lived there began to talk about building a great city, with a temple-tower reaching to the skies—a proud, eternal monument to themselves.
“This will weld us together,” they said, “and keep us from scattering all over the world.” So they made great piles of hard-burned brick, and collected bitumen to use as mortar.
5 But when God came down to see the city and the tower mankind was making, 6 he said, “Look! If they are able to accomplish all this when they have just begun to exploit their linguistic and political unity, just think of what they will do later! Nothing will be unattainable for them. [Gen 11: 1 – 6  TLB]
Is there any such thing as Christians cheering each other up? Do you love me enough to want to help me? Does it mean anything to you that we are brothers in the Lord, sharing the same Spirit? Are your hearts tender and sympathetic at all? 2 Then make me truly happy by loving each other and agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, working together with one heart and mind and purpose.
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. 4 Don’t just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing. [Phil 2: 1 – 4  TLB]
As we look at the Power of Unity, it will be necessary to define the two key words that this article is based on.
Power – It is capacity, influence, physical force, strength or spiritual energy.
Unity – It is the state or fact of being one undivided entity.
Facts About Unity From The Passage
1. One Language
At that time all mankind spoke a single language. [Gen 11:1  TLB]
Language – A form of communication using words either spoken or gestured with the hands and structured with grammar, often with a writing system.
There were no language barriers as we have today. Imagine how it was that they could all hear themselves, and communication was more effective.
Today we may have different languages spoken by different people or race but in Christ we have one language. Christ is the unifying language/factor in our generation. Christ is our – One Language. We are united in Him, and the purpose of our unity in Christ is to achieve God’s plans on this earth. [To Establish the Kingdom of God on the earth].
We are no longer Jews or Greeks or slaves or free men or even merely men or women, but we are all the same—we are Christians; we are one in Christ Jesus. [Gal 3:28 TLB]
In this new life, one’s nationality or race or education or social position is unimportant; such things mean nothing. Whether a person has Christ is what matters, and he is equally available to all. [Col 3:11  TLB
]
2. Mutual Respect
As the population grew and spread eastward, a plain was discovered in the land of Babylon and was soon thickly populated. 3-4 The people who lived there began to talk about building a great city, with a temple-tower reaching to the skies—a proud, eternal monument to themselves. [Gen 11: 2 – 3  TLB]
Mutual Respect – An attitude of consideration or high regard, or having the same relationship for each other
Having been united by one language, which is Christ, God expects us as His children to treat one another with a high sense of regard/respect.
Mutual respect is an Attitude, God also expects all His children to develop/cultivate this value system that will make for our unity in the the Body of Christ.
Where there is Understanding, there will be Mutual Respect.
3. Mutual Love
“This will weld us together,” they said, “and keep us from scattering all over the world.” So they made great piles of hard-burned brick, and collected bitumen to use as mortar. [Gen 11:4  TLB]
Mutual love – An intense feeling of affection and care towards another person who share in the same relationship.
Then, when that happens, we are able to hold our heads high no matter what happens and know that all is well, for we know how dearly God loves us, and we feel this warm love everywhere within us because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. [Rm 5:5 TLB]
Our ability to love one another, who are members of His Body is not based on physical attraction but it is an ability generated by the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
We can say that love is not a feeling but a commitment to every member of His body. If we are committed to one another in love, then we are assured of living in unity.

N/b: Number does not guarantee unity. Our Spiritual unity is far greater and better than our physical number.
And now this word to all of you: You should be like one big happy family, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds. 9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t snap back at those who say unkind things about you. Instead, pray for God’s help for them, for we are to be kind to others, and God will bless us for it. [1Peter 3: 8 – 9  TLB]
Shalom.
