Miracles are events that are thought to be the product of supernatural intervention in the natural world. They are frequently seen as unusual, paranormal events that defy scientific or natural explanations. Most people see miracles as indications or proof of God’s influence, strength, and presence in the human world. Miracles can come in many different forms, such as supernatural occurrences, miraculous rescues, and physical healings. Diverse religious traditions and cultures have distinct beliefs and understand miracles in different ways.
The bible contains many events that can only be explained as miracles because they deftied human understanding and reasoning.
John 11:34 “Where have you put him?” he asked them. They told him, “Lord, come and see.” John 11:36 The people who were standing nearby said, “See how much he loved him!” John 11:37 But some said, “This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t he have kept Lazarus from dying?” John 11:38 Jesus was still angry as he arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled across its entrance. John 11:39 “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.” John 11:40 Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” John 11:41 So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. John 11:42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” John 11:43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” John 11:44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”
The lazarus that was in the tomb for three good days and was afterwards brought back to life by Jesus Christ himself is not alive today.
This points to the obvious fact that he still died at a later date. This and many other examples of miracles as seen in the scriptures are proof that miracles are not an end in themselves but a means to an end, which is salvation.
If Lazarus didn’t commit himself to a life of righteousness after that great miracle of resurrection that Christ himself gave him, then that miracle was just another waste of the resources of God.
The purpose of God doing miracles in the lives of Christians is because it is one of the avenues he has created to establish them in the faith, and when he (God) extends the same miracles to non-Christians, his only purpose is to bring them to salvation.
Let us not major on using miracles to advertise the church for numerical increase and neglect the main purpose of miracles, which is salvation for non-Christians and establishment in the faith for Christians.
Please don’t forget that whatever the degree of the miracles, they only end here on earth, but if they produce salvation and the recipients are established in the faith, then we have put the resources of God to effective use, and we are guaranteed of God’s reward both here on earth and in eternity. But if we neglect the actual purpose, we have only wasted God’s precious resources, even in the mist of our celebration.
Again, miracles are not to promote any vessel Christ chooses to use as a channel to make his miraculous power known to the human world, nor are they a promotion of the denomination, but simply the demonstration of his fatherly love.
