You wives must submit to your husbands’ leadership in the same way you submit to the Lord. {Eph 5:22 TLB}
Having established that the concept of submission is a spiritual principle and not an act of slavery or another way of humiliating oneself, our scriptural focus for today opens up an aspect of submission which is very vital to the success or failure of any home – “You wives must submit to your husbands’ leadership in the same way you submit to the Lord”. Both husband’s and wives must first accept that the responsibility to provide Leadership in the home has been given to the man. The husband does not provide leadership in the home because he is superior to the woman or because she is inferior, or the weaker vessel, it is a divine responsibility given to the man by God, for which he will give account. If every wife understands this, the issue of submitting to their own husband becomes an act of honouring Christ. A woman who cannot or does not submit to her husband, will not be seen by God as submitting to Christ, because in the home, the husband is the first point of submission for the wife. The extent to which a wife should submit to her husband is not dependent primarily on the love of her husband for her, but on her love for Christ and secondly on her willingness to obey the words of Christ as contained in the Bible. The husband should also learn to Respect his wife, because it will create the enabling environment for true submission. It will be the height of hypocrisy and religion to be a wonderful sister in church who submits to the pastor but does not submit to your husband at home.
When you submit to your husband, you have submitted to Christ.
