We have been on this series for four Saturday running – Tips for maintaining sexual integrity as believers. We have maintained that sexual integrity is basically about faithfulness to the marriage covenant or purity in relationship for engaged people.
Tip 5: GET BRUTAL
I believe there’s an eleventh commandment somewhere that says “Thou Shalt Not Kid Thy Self.” If you’re serious about sexual integrity, you’ll distance yourself not only from the particular sexual sin you’re most prone to (fantasizing, pornography, affairs, prostitution, masturbation, etc) but you’ll also distance yourself from any person, place, habits or things that entices you towards that sin. Hear the Bible – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. {Heb 12:1 NLT}
Sometimes, even a legitimate activity (certain movies, music or discussions, for example) may be OK for other people to indulge in, but not for you as a believer, it may be harmful. Get brutally honest about your lifestyle: anything in it that makes you prone/vulnerable to sexual sin has to go.” You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything..” (I Corinthians 6:12 NLT)
Intimacy creates vulnerability, be careful the things, persons, places or habits you’re intimate with.
