Faith Righteousness III
And become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. {Phil 3:9 NLT}
The righteousness which is of the Law is that which could be obtained by reducing the Christian lifestyle to the keeping of rules and regulations, please note that all who depend on such righteousness is vain. Our scriptural focus for today states – And become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law. As a Pharisee, one of Apostle Paul’s goal was to live a life of righteousness, but he was misguided by religion into practicing self righteousness or righteousness based on human efforts, and that goal of his was never achieved as a Pharisee.
Today we see many in church been misguided into believing that as a believer you must do something to please God before He either blesses you or is pleased with you, like Apostle Paul, if you continue in that direction, it will only end in disappointment.
Your Union with Christ through genuine salvation experience, imputed righteousness to you. Hear this – David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it. {Rm 4:6 NLT}. Your pursuit daily should be to maintain you Union with Christ through the help of the Holy Spirit. Remember that Christ gave the Holy Spirit to believers to among others things help us to maintain the life of righteousness that God imputed to us.
When a believer makes statement’s like – God must bless/protect me because i pay my tithe, give offerings, sow seeds or because i serve in the church etc, you’re only counting on your own righteousness, because all these things and many more has been provided for, once and for all through the death and resurrection of Christ.
Stop counting your actions, start believing only in Christ.
