Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me. {Phil 1:17  NLT}

The motives behind the things you do as a believer, is what makes it right or wrong before God, and not the activities in themselves, no matter how wonderful they may be. Bear in mind, that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life. Our scriptural focus for today states – Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me. It is unbelievably true that the preaching of the gospel of Christ will be done with selfish ambition or competition by some believers in the days of apostle Paul, with the intention to make him suffer more pain and anguish in imprison. In our days, this problem is endemic in the church, some preaching of the gospel is no longer done as a commitment to Christ and for the true expansion of His kingdom on this earth, rather there have been alot of display of selfish ambitions and competitions, this ought not to be so as people on their way to perfection.
As believers, Christ did not make us partners with Him in the Gospel to either out shine one another or to out preach one another. The spirit of competition and selfish/inordinate ambition that have found its way into the church today is not of God but of the devil. Some of the gospel of money as preached in some worship places, or the over emphasis on money in churches today has its roots in selfish ambition and competition. The virtue of godliness and contentment that is great gain for every true believer is fast eroding from the body of Christ.
It is important we reexamine our motives for both preaching and practicing the gospel of Christ, if we still have the intention of making it to heaven after our earthly pilgrimage.

Preaching or practicing the gospel on the bases on selfish ambition is partnership with the devil.
