But you know how Timothy has proved himself. Like a son with his father, he has served with me in preaching the Good News. {Phil 2:22 NLT}
Our concern and care for the spiritual and physical needs of others as believers, should naturally develop because of the life of Christ we are privileged to have in our spirit man. Our scriptural focus for today states – But you know how Timothy has proved himself. Like a son with his father, he has served with me in preaching the Good News. The testimony Apostle Paul gave concerning Timothy in this passage is a great challenge to both young and old believers. Concerning Timothy Apostle Paul says – ‘But you know how Timothy has proved himself’ – He was saying in essence to the Philippian brethren – you have had undeniable evidences among yourselves of the Faithful service and devotion of Timothy to the promotion of the gospel of Christ. This statement confirms that the young man Timothy was with Apostle Paul in philippi and gave his best to serve with him for the course of Christ.
This is an account of a young man who has been tested, tried and truly made full proof of his ministry. Hear this – If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. {Rm 14:18 NLT}.
Beloved the things we have heard about Timothy in this passage, are basically his attitude towards the service of Christ, such that Apostle Paul whom he has treated both as a father and leader, approves of him. It also shows the extent to which he submitted himself to the discipleship/mentorship program of Paul, and see what God made out of his life.
The recommendations or affirmations you need from those you’re looking up to, either in ministry, your place of work, the church or even in the society, are rooted in sincere and faithful service.
Faithfulness in service leads to Dependability.
