Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. {Eph 4:29 NLT}
The new life you have in Christ, is one fashioned after the very life of God and there are expectations. ‘Don’t use foul or abusive language’ is one of the many expectations of God from you as a believer. Foul or abusive language is very destructive, for instance – it can destroy a persons self esteem, it pollutes your mind, it is at the heart of all quarrels, it fuels gossip, it can destroy the character/image of a person etc. Any person known for speaking foul or abusive language is seen as being irresponsible. Rather than speak foul language the Bible teaches that your words should be good, helpful and such that will build up/edify those who hear you. Words are very important in human relationships, that is why you must be careful to always speak good and encouraging words to people.
It is bad parenting to always use foul or abusive words on your children no matter the provocation. As a parent you should build the life of your children by your words, Isaac said to Esau, i have made him(Jacob) your head, he didn’t give Jacob money but the words he(Isaac) spoke to his son Jacob.
If you want to change your life, start by changing your words.
