That is how husbands should treat their wives, loving them as parts of themselves. For since a man and his wife are now one, a man is really doing himself a favor and loving himself when he loves his wife! {Eph 5:28 TLB}
The principle of Oneness as practiced by the Trinity, is the example that has been laid for believers to follow in their marriage relationship. Our scriptural focus for today says – For since a man and his wife are now one, a man is really doing himself a favour and loving himself when he loves his wife. Oneness in marriage for believers is not a mindset, rather it is the New life of covenant we have been called to live with our spouse in Christ. The marriage covenant in Christ makes a husband and wife One on the day they exchange their marriage vows, but they are now required to work out there Oneness as long as they both shall live on this earth. That is why the scriptures says that a husband is only doing himself a great favour and demonstrating to the world how much he loves himself when he loves his wife. So when a husband hates his wife, he is also demonstrating to the world around him how much he hates/dislikes himself. For husband’s, the more you love your wife unconditionally, the more you love and feel good about yourself. It is in doing this that we as believers can present marriage as a godly institution for unbelievers to emulate from.
