Today we begin a new series on Effective Communication in Marriage. Communication is the concept or process of exchanging information between two or more persons. When we zero it down to marriage it will mean – The concept or process of exchanging information between a husband and wife. Effective Communication between a husband and wife is very key to the success or failure of their relationship. In most cases, married people and even intending couples, have failed to pay close attention to the quality of their communication because they think its one of the easiest things to do. If communication was really that simple, everyone would be doing it right and all of our communication would glorify God and reflect His image. Secondly, it may look simple, but note that effective communication is born out of hard work, while bad communication is the root of all the irreconcilable differences in marriage.
TIP 1 – The Principle of First Response:
The course of a conflict is not really determined by the person who initiates the communication, but by the person who responds. You may feel it’s okay to strike at someone verbally because, “He is picking a fight with me or spoke badly to me” You may be correct, but that person does not have the power to decide whether a fight will actually occur. That power rests with the responder. Hear this wise words – A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. {Prov 15:1 NLT}. If you become more conscious of your response towards your spouse, and ensure that even when he/she makes an offensive comment, your good response will deflect that intended quarrel, then your building your communication and marriage to be an example to the world around you.
Let your response be seasoned with salt and minister grace to your spouse.
Have a Grace filled day – Good News Awaits you.
