The Church and Persecution Part II
I was far ahead of my fellow Jews in my zeal for the traditions of my ancestors. {Gal 1:14 NLT}
Our faith and hope in Christ are both nourished by the promises of God as contained in the scriptures. As a child of God, it is your responsibility to search them out. Our scriptural focus for today states – I was far ahead of my fellow Jews in my zeal for the traditions of my ancestors.
Apostle Paul states that he advanced not only in the knowledge of the Jewish religion, but he also surpassed others in his zeal in defending the interest of the Jewish religion. By his zeal for the Jewish religion, which he now refers to as the traditions of his ancestors, he made great achievement’s than most of his countrymen had done.
His zeal was good and should be commended, but it was channelled in the wrong direction. He was a chief promoter of a religion that God was abolishing, and yet he thought he was doing God a great favour as at that time by persecuting the church of Jesus Christ.
It will be very important to emphasis that there are many religion’s and traditions of men in our world today, but Christianity isn’t one of them, because Christianity is a divine lifestyle made available to men on this earth by Christ, through His death and resurrection. So whatever you believe in or practice, that is not based solely on the death and resurrection of Christ and establishes Him as Lord and Saviour, is just a religion or the tradition of your ancestors.
Please as a believer, ensure that your zeal is not channelled in the wrong direction and for the wrong purposes.
Be zealous only for Christ.
Have a Grace filled day – Good News awaits you.
