It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives. {Phil 1:15 NLT}
The motives behind whatever you do as a believer is very important, because it is the motive and not necessarily the action that God will judge. If the motive is right the action will be right but if the motive is wrong the action must be wrong. Our scriptural focus for today states – It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives. Paul’s imprisonment also exposed the wrong motives/intentions of some people within the Philippian church. Preaching the gospel of Christ is the best thing any believer can do for the kingdom of God here on earth, but we discover that some people were doing it out of jealousy(envy) and rivalry (strife). It appears unbelievable how some brethren could be preaching the gospel with the wrong motives that can only come from the devil. If you carefully discern some of the messages been preached in our generation on television, radio, buses, and in churches, its amazing how some are done with the wrong motives, it even appears worse today than the days of apostle Paul.
The question is – as a minister of the gospel, or as a leader in the church, or even as a believer, are you among those preaching the gospel with the wrong motives or are you among those preaching with the right motives. The earlier you check your heart and answer this question, the better for you.
Apostle paul had an amazing attitude. When he discovered that some of the brethren were now preaching to build a personal reputation or to make a name for themselves, taking advantage of his imprisonment, he was not bitter or angry at them, rather he rejoiced that their are still brethren preaching the gospel with pure motives. Always rejoice in things done with righteous attitudes and never be found indulging or celebrating things done with the wrong motives.
Don’t do the right thing with the wrong motive.
