who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God. {Phil 2:6 TLB}
Having the mind of Christ is a disposition that says – I cannot keep my rights and privileges for myself, I must use them for the benefit of others; and to achieve this, I will gladly and willingly lay them aside and pay whatever price that is necessary. Our scriptural focus for today states – who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God. As we continue to look at the perfect example of Christ during His humanity, a lot of critical issues steer us in the face as believers;
1. What can’t you give up to demonstrate your faith, love and obedience to God?. For Christ, having been privileged to share in the highest position of authority and influence in heaven and on earth, He did not see it as something to forcibly retain, when He heard God say these words – Who shall I send and who shall go for us to redeem my investment on earth, He (Christ) gladly and willingly said there am I, send me. His eyes was not on the authority, influence, rights and privileges that was at His disposal, rather His focus was on doing whatever will please God not minding the cost. What are your struggles when God requires you to give up the rights and privileges He has brought into your life for the sake of serving His purpose on this earth. The example of Christ speaks volume.
2. What has the rights and privileges you enjoy turned you into?. Its becoming unbelievable what believers do or become when given not just responsibilities but privileges. Most people handle responsibility well only when there are rights and privileges that go with it. A true believer will use his rights and privileges to help others and build up the church just as Jesus did, but a self centered believer will only use his/her privileges to promote himself/herself. Please be Christlike.
Rights and Privileges are good but will be worthless if you can’t give them up for God.
