This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. {Eph 5:32 NLT}
The profound truth of the union of Christ and His bride {the church, is beyond human understanding. The relationship of a husband and wife is not what provides the illustration of the union between Christ and the church, rather, it is the divine relationship between Christ and the church that exemplifies how the human marriage relationship should be. Our scriptural focus for today states – This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. The unconditional love a Christian husband is expected by God to demonstrate towards his wife and the submission of a Christian wife to her husband as expected by God should be a mystery in the eyes of the world. Looking at the love Christ demonstrated towards the church, to the point of paying the ultimate price of death for her, and has continued to love and cherish her{the church}, irrespective of her shortcomings, is the greatest mystery the world has seen in the last 2,500 thousand years. If the love or submission you practice in your marriage as a believer, is either the same or even below what unbelievers practice in their own marriage, it should be clear to you that you are not representing Christ through your marriage. One of the purposes of Christian marriage is to exemplify the mysterious union between Christ and the church to the world around us.
You marriage should be a mystery to the world.
