Products of The Sinful Nature Part I
Beloved, true joy and happiness does not come from the abundance of your possessions, rather it comes from within you because of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Our scriptural focus for today states – When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures. {Gal 5:19 NLT}
It is the responsibility of the sinful nature (the flesh) to produce thoughts/ideas that if followed will lead to sinful actions, but it is the choice of humans to accept such thoughts/ideas willingly and turn them into actions/lifestyles that are sinful. The devil cannot force any human into committing any kind of sin, rather it is only made possible when you follow the desires of the sinful nature. Consider this – Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. {James 1:14-15 NLT}
Therefore it is a choice to follow the desires the sinful nature produces in our hearts as humans and not a mandatory requirement for living here on earth. For a believer in Christ, it is the production of these sinful desires in the realms of the mind/heart by the sinful nature that is seen as spiritual oppression. Because a believer in Christ cannot be possessed by the sinful nature, the devil now seeks to oppress believers in Christ through ignorance of the provisions of the covenant of grace. Based on this fact, the devil comes up with strategies that are aimed at tricking believers into following the desires of the sinful nature with the intention that the believer will be better off.
The experience of Eve exemplifies the crafty nature of the devil. He offered Eve something very worthless in exchange for the glorious destiny of the human race. Beloved, bear in mind that whenever the devil tricks you into following the desires of the sinful nature, know that you are exchanging the glorious destiny you have in Christ for something very worthless
Don’t fall for the tricks of the devil.
