Thinking Worthy Thoughts Part III
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. {Phil 4:8 NLT}
As believers, we must deliberately learn by faith to see the Greatness and Awesomeness of our God over and above every circumstance that is currently confronting us and be assured that He has the solution. Our scriptural focus for today states – And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Peace involves the heart/mind, and we cannot over emphasis how powerful our thoughts can be in shaping our destiny. Wrong thoughts will lead to unrest and discouragement, but to be spiritually minded will lead to life and peace.
Let’s consider again some of the components of a heathy and biblical thought life as highlighted in this scripture:
5. Lovely – These are things that are amiable on its own account and on account of its usefulness to others, whether in your conduct or conversation. A believer should not be sour or irritable in his/her temper, because it will misrepresent Christ.
6. Admirable/Good – This refers to things that are truly reputable both in the sight of God and the society. There are actions that are admired by all, e.g – courtesy, kindness, respect for parents, purity among brothers and sisters etc, believers should be the pattern and example of these virtues to the world at large.
Apostle Paul did not suppose that he has given a full list of the virtues believers should cultivate through their thoughts, he therefore adds that if there are things that represent godly virtues, things that are worthy of praise, believers should equally go for such things. God expects that these godly virtues will be the object of our careful attention and study, so as to practice them.
Be a pattern and example of every godly virtue.
