Follow God’s example in everything you do just as a much loved child imitates his father. {Eph 5:1 TLB}
God is asking you to imitate Him because, you are a child greatly loved by Him. To imitate means to reproduce someone’s behaviour, pattern or model. In our world, the devil has produced models and patterns that looks like God, and his aim is to replace God in the lives of people. That is why he (the devil) keeps presenting alternatives that humans can imitate. Anyone that imitates the devils models can never be like God. Our scriptural focus for today teaches that a child should only imitate his/her father, and if God is your Father, you’re duty bound to imitate Him. What actually distinguishes you as a believer in this world is not the church you belong to, nor the church activities you attend, but that you look like God in your behaviour/character. We can also learn from our fellow believers who have gone ahead of us, like apostle paul said – And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. [1Cor 11:1]. Be very sure that the person you are imitating is truly imitating Christ.
The reason for the fake is because there is an Original, God is the Original, be like Him.
