For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort, {Phil 3:3 NLT}
The ordinance of circumcision as instituted by God was not designed to be a mere outward ceremony that does not have any spiritual value, rather it was the old testament way of crucifying the flesh and its corrupt tendencies, that will lead to the pure and spiritual worship of God. Our scriptural focus for today states – For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. In this phrase, The Holy Spirit through Apostle Paul states the true meaning of circumcision for the new testament believer, so those who urge it as necessary for salvation or who teach that salvation/righteousness depends on any other outward practice have lost sight of true Christianity.
It will be important to state that your faith in Christ as Lord and saviour has made you experience the true spiritual circumcision. Your daily responsibility is to live a life of righteousness by the enablement of the Holy Spirit. To worship by the Spirit simply means – serving God through the leading of the Holy Spirit or understanding the work of Christ for humans and daily living a life that pleases God on the basis of grace.
Circumcision was established as a covenant of acceptable worship to God from humans and a sign of an outward differentiation of who Gods chosen people are from the entire human race. Those who have now embraced the Faith of Christ, have now entered into the New Covenant that is in the Spirit. Always bear this in mind as a believer – The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing.
True spirituality is achieved only by grace.
