Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. {Eph 5:2 NLT}
As you consider living a life filled with godly love, it will be important to observe how Christ loved you, to enable you know how to actually love others. The love of Christ to humanity was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Don’t love people because of what you intend to get from them, because that is not godly love but deception. Unfortunately, that is the world’s definition of love. Like Christ let you idea and practice of love be sacrificial and selfless. When you practice love as God intended, it ascends to Him as a pleasing aroma.
Your practice of godly love should enrich/better the lives of those who benefit from it and should not in anyway place any burden on them towards you.
Christ expects you not to only love those who actually love you, but to love those who don’t love you and even those who hate you. Hear this – If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a reward? Anybody can do that. True Christianity is in showing the love of God to the world around you.
Jesus expects you to be extravagant in love.
