Today we continue with the series we started two Saturday’s ago on – Effective Communication in Marriage. Communication is the concept or process of exchanging information between two or more persons. When we zero it down to marriage it will mean – The concept or process of exchanging information between a husband and wife. Effective Communication between a husband and wife is very key to the success or failure of their relationship.
Tip 3 – The Principle of Proper Timing: The success of a conversation between a husband and wife can be maximized if the timing of the conversation is carefully chosen. Hear this – Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time! {Prov 15:23 NLT}.
Maintaining proper timing in your communications is not a virtue but a learning process you can start today. Always taking into consideration the peculiarity of your spouse or the personality of your spouse will go a long way in helping you know when to bring up some conversations.
Secondly the peculiarity of the subject to be discussed should also influence the timing of the discussion.
It will be poor timing to initiate a very important conversation with your spouse under the following conditions;
1. When he/she just came back from work and is still under the stress of the day.
2. In the presence of your children, mother or father in-law, brothers, sisters, friends etc.
3. When your spouse is feeling sleepy
4. When your spouse is either angry or hungry.
5. When he/she is watching a television program/movie that is very educative spiritually and mentally.. Etc
There are times when a conversation is critical and waiting for the appropriate time may be dangerous, In such cases, of course, the football game should go off, the movie can stop, the tiredness can be overlooked and you talk. Or, the lights go back on and you and your spouse can be up until the conversation is over. However, those should be the exceptions rather than the rule. The majority of the time, you should be more strategic in the timing of our conversations.
Learn to time your conversations for better results.
Have a Grace filled day – Good News awaits you
