Christianity after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ has gone through a lot of phrases, especially in the area of how is it is practiced. One of the aspects of the Christian practice that has gone through a lot of phrases is – Prayer.
There are different styles of prayer that have been brought into the Christian faith, and for the purpose of this article, we will be examining who the Holy Ghost Fire is actually meant for.

The Holy Ghost Fire is used as a weapon of mass destruction in modern day Christianty against all perceived enemies of the one praying and unleashing the fire. This way of praying which is called Judgemental prayer or prayer of vengeance has gained ground’s in today’s church and it has its basis from – 2Kings 1:9-12  Then he sent an army captain with fifty soldiers to arrest him. They found him sitting on top of a hill. The captain said to him, “Man of God, the king has commanded you to come down with us. But Elijah replied to the captain, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and destroy you and your fifty men!” Then fire fell from heaven and killed them all. So the king sent another captain with fifty men. The captain said to him, “Man of God, the king demands that you come down at once. Elijah replied, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and destroy you and your fifty men!” And again the fire of God fell from heaven and killed them all.
In the day’s that Elijah lived in, God did some of these things to establish His sovergnity in the human world and to punish every act of unrighteousness by his people. This event happened in scripture because of the unrighteous acts of the king of Israel and please note it was not against the enemies of Israel. The king of Israel consulted the devil for solution to his health challenge and God was displeased. All the actions that followed from the judgement on the kings health and the consuming of the soldiers with fire, where all a demonstration of God’s anger against His own children for their ungodly act.

One day Jesus Christ was stopped from entering a particular village and two of His disciples adviced Him to do what Elijah did – Now when the time was almost come for Jesus to be received up [to heaven], He steadfastly and determinedly set His face to go to Jerusalem. And He sent messengers before Him; and they reached and entered a Samaritan village to make [things] ready for Him; But [the people] would not welcome or receive or accept Him, because His face was [set as if He was] going to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John observed this, they said, Lord, do You wish us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, even as Elijah did? But He turned and rebuked and severely censured them. He said, You do not know of what sort of spirit you are, For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them [from the penalty of eternal death]. And they journeyed on to another village. (Luke 9:51-56 AMP)
The response of Jesus Christ established two fundamental fact’s of the New creation
A. The Spirit we are privileged to house, does not do such things(kill humans)
B. His(Christ) mission is to save human lives and not to destroy human lives.

By the response of Jesus Christ, it is obvious that the Holy Ghost Fire is no longer a weapon of mass destruction to be used against unbelievers or against our perceived enemies as Believers. The use of fire from heaven may have been used in the day’s of Elijah to destroy human lives but Christ is saying it is no longer our practice in the New testament church.

If the Holy Ghost Fire is not for unbelievers nor for our perceived enemies, if the Holy Ghost Fire is no longer a weapon of mass destruction in the hand’s of the Believer in Christ, then the question – is the Holy Ghost Fire still relevant in the New testament church, and who is it meant for?
Let’s examine this scriptures as we provide answers to the above questions – John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. {Luke 3:16 NLT}
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. (Acts 2: 1-4 NLT)
From the above scriptures, it is clear that the Holy Ghost Fire is still relevant in the New testament church and it is actually meant for the Believer in Christ and not for our perceived enemies. John the Baptist gave the prophecy concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit and with fire and in Acts 2, we saw the recorded account of the first fulfilment of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire. Please note that it has continued up until today. If you are a believer in Christ, please understand that the Holy Ghost Fire is for your spiritual strengthening and edification, and not a weapon of mass destruction against your perceived enemies. So you’re always at liberty to ask Christ to baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire and this you can do almost on a daily basis.
Some of these wrong practices may have been crusaded for many years and by very respected men of God, but the truth still remains that the Bible is our Supreme Authority and Guide. Whenever you’re practicing something as a believer in Christ that is not supported by the Bible, the best and honourable thing to do is to discard such practices and go back to the Bible.
